Duracell’s Trust Your Power ad is a big hit, even if you’re not a Seattle Seahawks fan. Featuring Seattle Seahawks NFL star Derrick Coleman, the ad chronicles his struggles with hearing loss: being picked on as a kid, told he couldn’t make it, and being passed over in the NFL draft.
“They didn’t call my name…told me it was over. But I’ve been deaf since I was 3…so I didn’t listen. Now I’m here, with the loudest fans in the NFL cheering me on. And I can hear them all.” The ad ends with the tagline “Trust the power within.” A great ad for Duracell batteries (are you listening, hearing aid companies?), but the reach has extended beyond just batteries.
Jake Kovalcik from New Jersey tweeted Coleman a picture of a letter one of his twin daughters wrote. In the letter, she tries to encourage Coleman, writing “I know how you feel. I also have hearing aids. Just try your best.”
The great thing? Coleman tweeted back a letter of his own: “Even though we wear hearing aids, we can still accomplish our goals & dreams.”
Truly inspirational.
